Thank you for choosing to holiday with us at Higher Hopworthy, we hope you enjoy your stay. All the information you need about the cottage is in this guest guide, if you have any questions or would like any further information please just ask!

ARRIVAL INFORMATION

CHECK IN

The cottage will be ready from 4pm on your arrival day. You will be sent a code for the key box (by the front door) prior to your arrival.

The entrance to Kingfishers will be found at the bottom of Hopworthy hill near the railway bridge.

Parking for up to 2 cars adjacent to the cottage

EV CHARGING

 

EV charging is available at the property (£50 charging deposit required). The charger is a 7.5KW untethered charger - please ensure you bring a charging cable with you.

Charging from any other socket is strictly prohibited.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

 

A welcome tea tray for your arrival with tea, sugar, milk, coffee plus a selection of pods for the tassimo machine.

Essential cleaning items including washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, tea towels and bin bags.

PACK THE ESSENTIALS

The area around the lake is quite wet and muddy following this particularly wet winter – wellies or similar foorwear are essential!

As the hot tub is outside, we suggest that you bring suitable footwear eg flipflops and a dressing gown for accessing the hot tub.

WINDOWS & DOORS

The Velux windows are operated by the remote controls.

As they have a rain sensor they will won't open when wet.

The patio doors are lift and slide mechanisms: to slide the door pull the handle all the way downwards. When you have shut the door, pull the handle all the way up to lock it.
Please ensure the doors are secured on the inside with the thumbturn locks before leaving the property.

HEATING

The underfloor heating is thermostatically controlled and programmed to ensure recommended ambient temperatures throughout the day and night.

Please let us know if you are feeling too hot or too cold and we can make adjustments.

HOT WATER

The boiler is set to heat the water mornings & evenings. The solar system should keep the water hot during the day. If there is no hot water during the daytime
please press the ADVANCE button on the white timer unit on the right hand side of the boiler cupboard (in main dressing room)

HEATED TOWEL RAILS

 

The towel rails are left in standby mode,
press the on/off button to turn on, followed by
the clock button once to activate the timer.

SHOWER 

Use the left hand shower control to select the shower head (1/4 turn forward or back), the right hand control is for the temperature. 

INDUCTION HOB

Induction hobs can interfere with the performance of pacemakers. It is recommended to keep at least 60cm away from the stove top.

APPLIANCES

Instruction booklets can be found in the kitchen drawer.

If there is anything not working, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can arrange repairs / replacements. 

COFFEE MACHINE

Please see the instruction sheet provided.
The start button does require pressing quite
firmly!
We provide a starter selection of pods,
additional pods are available in local
supermarkets.
Please place used pods in the recycling.

LAUNDRY

There is a washing machine in the kitchen. The laundry basket, ironing board and electric airer can be found in the kitchen cupboard. A rotary washing line is provided in the garden.

GARDEN FURNITURE

Please keep the chairs & loungers stacked behind the hot tub when not in use to prevent damage in windy conditions.

EV CHARGING

 

EV charging is available at the property by prior arrangement (£50 charging deposit required).

The current rate is 28p/kWh, any unused balance is refundable.

Charging from any other socket is strictly prohibited.

HOT TUB MAINTENANCE

 

We will need to access the hot tub daily to complete essential daily checks & maintenance. This will usually be between 9am - 12 noon.

DEPARTURE DAY

 

If you have food left over at the end of your stay, please do not put it in the black bin, please leave it in the kitchen for us to dispose of appropriately, thank you.

Please ensure the property is vacated by 10am.

For your safety and comfort, please follow the hot tub safety rules during your stay.

 

  • The hot tub must not be used by children under the age of 4.

 

  • If pregnant please seek advice from your doctor / midwife before use

 

  • If you have one of the following conditions, please seek medical advice from your doctor before use:

-cardiovascular disease (including high blood pressure)

- epilepsy

- skin conditions

 - immunosuppression

 

  • Please shower to remove suncream and lotions before use

 

  • Do not use the hot tub if you have had diarrhoea in the previous 14 days

 

  • Use of hot tubs are not recommended immediately after a large meal or excessive alcohol consumption

 

  • Prolonged use (>30mins) may result in dizziness, please take extra care when exiting the tub

 

  • Children must be supervised at all times

 

Instructions for Use

To Open:

Undo the two clips at the front of the tub.
Ensure the lifting bracket bar is in the middle of the lid
Fold the front half of the lid back onto the back half (with the bar in between)
Use the lifting bracket to tip the whole lid to the right.
The lid should then be supported fully by the lifting bracket.


To Close:

Tip the lifting bracket to the left and then unfold the lid. Secure with the clips.

Please do not press the temperature button as this will alter the tub settings.

 

Please ensure the air, lights and jets are turned off before exiting the hot tub and replace the lid when not in use. If the jets do not turn off, don’t worry – the tub is on a heating or filter cycle.

Please do not sit or stand on the lid

 

As the hot tub will be cleaned between guests it may not be up to operating temperature (36-38 degrees) at the time of your arrival.

 

We will require access daily to monitor and adjust chemical levels as necessary

 

No foot wear to be worn in the tub

 

Please take care when entering and exiting to avoid slipping

 

 

If the water becomes excessively cloudy/discoloured due to misuse, we will have to drain and clean.

If you wish it to be refilled, this will be at an additional cost of £50.

Holsworthy

Holsworthy is a traditional agricultural market town, with a pannier market in the square and a livestock market on the outskirts of town (both held on a Wednesday)

 Annual celebrations include the Holsworthy & Stratton agricultural show, St Peter’s Fair week and the carnival in November.

 

There is a leisure centre with swimming pool and a park with a new children’s play area. The free museum is located by the main car park, opposite the tourist information office.

Directions

Turn right out of the cottages towards Pyworthy and continue up the hill, straight through the village. At the bottom of the hill turn left. The first right turn will take you to Waitrose. The road will otherwise take you to the town centre.

Bude

Bude is a popular seaside town, with plenty of activities for all the family. With Bude’s canal, beaches and sea pool, there is something for everyone. The Castle, Bude has a museum & gallery and there are events held on The Castle Green all through the year. A very popular farmers market is held on the wharf every Friday during the summer. Annual events include Bude Jazz week, Bude Food Festival & Bude & Stratton Heritage Festival.

 

Directions

 

Turn left out of the cottages. At the cross roads turn left. Continue through Bridgerule until you come to the main Bude / Launceston road (B3254). Turn right and then turn left at the next main road (Red post). Follow this road through Stratton until you meet the main A39. Turn left and then the next right (opposite the Veterinary Surgery), this road will take you into the town centre.

Around The Farm

Fishing Lake

Directions to the lake: Turn left out of the cottages and follow the road in the Bude direction. At the bottom of the hill you will see  the entrance to the lake on the left hand side. There is a small parking area on the left hand side. Please note a private area of the lake is reserved for the use of guests at Kingfishers.

Please ensure children are supervised at all times.

  

Pyworthy Park

There is a small play area in Pyworthy, opposite the church. It is approx 1 mile (some uphill) if you want to walk. Alternatively if you park in front of the  pub, and walk through the churchyard, you will find the gates to the park approximately opposite.

Walking

A 2 1/2 mile circular walk along the surrounding lanes:

 

Turn left out of the cottages; take the next two right turns which bring you back to the lane to Hopworthy. 

 

You are welcome to walk across our farmland, please be aware that there will be cattle in some of the fields. Please leave all gates as you find them.
