Think winter walks with a hearty pub lunch by a roaring fire, twinkly festive lights with a fully loaded hot chocolate - or maybe just a glass of something cold in your steaming hot tub under the stars!

We might not be in Bavaria, but a Christmas Market is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit, not to mention a great place for those last minute gifts or to sample lots of lovely food! Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market opens 20th November, and you can make a day of it by visiting the Winter Wonderland in Northerhay Gardens with a skating rink, santa's grotto, light trail and much more!

Closer to home, Bude has some lovely independent shops perfect for presents and there are lots of food and craft fairs happening all through November and December. Why not make your own special gift? try one of the many local craft workshops with everything from pottery to fused glass - more information can be found on the Visit Bude website

Feeling Festive!

There's nothing like Christmas lights to get you into the festive mood.

Many of the South West's attractions are transformed into a winter wonderland with beautiful illuminations at night. Choose from Rosemoor Glow, Heligan by Night, The Eden Project and Zooluminate at Dartmoor Zoo to name just a few. You can also enjoy ice skating at the Eden project right through until February half term and Rosemoor has its winter sculpture trail running throughout November and December.

It is also the season of winter carnivals - with Hatherleigh's amazing torchlit procession and flaming tar barrels on the 8th November and Holsworthy Carnival the following week.

Treat Yourself

ree

Whether it's a hot chocolate with all the trimmings, or an afternoon tea, there's nothing nicer than some festive food and drink! Bude Castle, Rectory Farm tearooms and Strawberry Fields Farm shop all offer festive afternoon teas throughout December.
