Tips for a Pawsome Getaway
The best dog walks always include food and with lots of dog friendly places to choose from, here's our top tips for a lovely lunch or some yummy cakes whilst out with your pooch.
On the site of the former otter sanctuary, you can enjoy an off lead walk in the secure woodland area before a light lunch or coffee and cake in their dog friendly cafe. Highly recommend a trip in the spring when the woods are filled with bluebells!
Whether its for breakfast, lunch or dinner this dog friendly restaurant situated by Bude canal is the perfect addition to a walk. Whether its a short walk along the canal to/from Bude, a longer route across the fields to Widemouth Bay or even the full circular coast & canal route, a stop off here is highly recommended.
Southwest Lakes
Tamar Lake & Roadford Lake both have dog friendly cafes to recharge after your dog walks. The upper lake at Tamar lakes has a circular walk around the lake whist Roadford has several different walking trails.
Tarka Trail
Our favourite sections of the Tarka trail are those around Torrington running north towards Bideford and south towards Merton. Luckily there are two lovely dog friendly cafes for you to choose from! The Puffing Billy at Torrington is the perfect start/finish for a route in either direction, whilst Yarde Orchard on the Merton section is great for a stop off midway when you're getting a bit peckish!
If you're looking for a fun day out for all the family, then there are several attractions to choose from where your furry friend can come along too.
The Milky Way Adventure Park
Probably the most popular family attraction in the area, allows dogs in limited numbers - must be booked in advance (see their dog policy here:)
RHS Rosemoor
Will be trialling designated dog friendly days every Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday from March 2025 - see their Paws on Paths information here:
Hartland Abbey & Gardens
With extensive gardens reaching all the way to the beautiful Atlantic coast, this is a particularly scenic dog walking location, plus there are nature trails and animals to meet for the kids to enjoy.
Lappa Valley
If you don't mind travelling a little further - Lappa Valley near Newquay is one of the top family attractions and very dog welcoming too. Dogs are allowed on all the trains and there is a designated doggy field for some off lead fun.
If you are looking for dog-friendly dining options - there's plenty of those too, whether its for Sunday Roast or an evening meal.
